Letting Your AI Edit Your WordPress Pages

29 views · Updated 1 month ago

Connect a WordPress site for content editing

To let your AI read and change the text on a WordPress site, you give it an application password. You create that inside your own WordPress admin, and you can cancel it there at any time without telling us.

This is deliberately separate from your hosting login. The password only works for that one website, and it gives no access to your files, your other sites or your account.

1. Create the password in WordPress

  1. Sign in to your WordPress admin.
  2. Go to Users, then Profile.
  3. Scroll down to Application Passwords.
  4. Type a name - TackHost AI is a good one - and press Add New Application Password.
  5. WordPress shows you a password once. Copy it now; you cannot see it again.

2. Add it in TackHost

  1. Open your AI Connect page and go to Website content.
  2. Choose the website.
  3. Enter your WordPress username and paste the password.

Paste it exactly as WordPress showed it, spaces and all - that is expected and it will work.

  1. Press Connect this website.

We check the details against your site straight away. If the username or password is wrong, you will be told immediately rather than finding out later.

3. Connect your AI at "Edit content"

Reconnect your AI and choose Edit content on the approval screen.

Now you can ask things like:

List the pages on my website

Read my About page

Update the opening hours on the Contact page to 9am-6pm

What it will and will not do

  • New pages are saved as drafts unless you clearly ask for them to be published.
  • The previous version of anything it edits is saved, with an Undo button in your panel for 30 days.
  • It works with the page's real source, so page-builder layouts and shortcodes stay intact.

Turning it off

Two things, and both are worth doing:

  1. Press Disconnect on the website in your TackHost panel.
  2. Delete the application password in WordPress > Users > Profile.

Removing it from TackHost stops us using it. Deleting it in WordPress is what actually cancels it.

If your AI says the website is blocking it

Some security plugins switch off the WordPress API that this uses. Wordfence and iThemes Security both can. Allow the REST API for your own user, or ask us and we will take a look.
